Montana’s Little Cat Rescue exists because one cat changed everything.
Founder and President Taylor Patz has been helping cats since 2013, when she began volunteering at a local animal shelter and assisting with Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) efforts. Over the years, one thing became evident which was the cats who needed help the most were almost always the ones left behind. The seniors. The sick. The injured. The cats with medical needs, the ones who had spent years surviving outside, and the ones many people believed weren’t worth the time or expense.
In 2024, Taylor began fostering for several rescues throughout the Chicagoland area. She welcomed cats into her home that others overlooked, giving them a safe place to heal while waiting for families of their own. Every foster reminded her how quickly a life can change when someone simply says “yes.”
Then Montana came along. Montana was 15 years old and had spent her life surviving on the streets. She ended up in an overcrowded, out-of-state shelter where time had run out, because of her age and medical needs, she was set to be euthanized if she was not out by the deadline.
Taylor had never met her, and didn’t know what the future would look like or what medical care Montana might need. She only knew one thing which was that Montana deserved a chance, so she made the drive out of state, brought Montana home, and gave her exactly that.
Instead of spending her final days alone in a shelter, Montana experienced what every cat deserves; a warm bed, full meals, comfort, medical care, and someone who loved her unconditionally. She was never “too old”, never “too sick”, she simply needed someone willing to believe that her life still mattered.
That experience became the heart of Montana’s Little Cat Rescue.
Today, our rescue focuses on the cats that are too often overlooked: seniors, medical cases, neglected and abused cats, homeless cats, and those running out of time in overcrowded shelters. We believe every cat deserves compassion, regardless of their age, health, or the cost of their care.
Some cats stay with us for weeks. Some stay for months. Some spend the rest of their lives with us. No matter how long they’re here, every cat deserves to feel safe, loved, and valued.
We are a small rescue, but every life we save matters. Every adoption creates room for another cat in need. Every donation helps provide food, medical care, and shelter. Every foster home creates space for another forgotten cat to begin their journey toward a brighter future.
Montana’s story has become the reason countless others now have a second chance. Sometimes, all it takes to save a life is one person willing to say yes.

Our vision is to build the future home of Montana’s Little Cat Rescue: a permanent safe haven where the cats who need us most will always have somewhere to turn.
A place where vulnerable cats receive immediate protection, lifesaving medical care, nourishing food, comfort, and the compassion they deserve while they prepare for their next chapter and their forever families. Through this future facility, we will be able to rescue more senior cats, provide specialized care for medical and special needs cats, respond to emergencies more quickly, support more foster families, and create more lifesaving opportunities for the cats who are too often overlooked, ensuring more receive the second chances they deserve.
